LAST OF THE PIONEERS.

Mrs. Nancy G. HAMMANS, who died at Glasgow last week, was the last of the adult pioneers who made the first settlement in Jefferson County, in Round Prairie Township. Joseph Tilford, who was a lad of nine years, when his father's family came to this county in 1836, is the only surviving member of the original settlers. Nancy G. WALKER was born in Adair County, Ken., August 7th 1815. She removed with her father's family to Illinois and was married there in 1836 to Benjamin D. WORKMAN. They came to Jefferson County a year later, where the husband died. She was afterwards married to James M. HAMMANS. Mrs. HAMMANS was active in mind and body and proved a worthy help-meet for a pioneer settler. She passed through all the hardships incident to the development of a new country and had many vivid recollections of those early days. Her life from young womanhood was spent in Round Prairie township, and she was loved and admired by all who knew her in 65 years of residence in Jefferson County."
