Joe Clancy TUCKER was born on September 5, 1928 in Centerville, Iowa the son of Joe C. and Ruth STRICKLER TUCKER. He graduated from Centerville High School and attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines.
On January 16, 1949, Joe was united in marriage to Shirley LOCKRIDGE in North English.
He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. Joe worked in the labor-relations field and they made their home in Fairfield, Iowa, Newport Beach, California, Louisville, Kentucky, Danville, Illinois, and Newton, Iowa, communities before moving to Colfax, Iowa in 1989. He received the Golden Eagle Sculpture award and Gulf Western Industries Stock for outstanding performance as a group director of industrial relations. Joe owned Stinson-Tucker Insurance in Colfax for 3 years. He had been a member of the Lions Club in both Fairfield and Danville and served as the Republican Committee Chairman while in Fairfield.
Joe died from a heart attack on Friday, May 25, 2001 at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton, Iowa. He lived 72 years, 8 months and 20 days.
Joe is survived by his wife Shirley LOCKRIDGE TUCKER of Colfax; a daughter Sherri Jo NOVAK of Ottumwa; a son Brett Lockridge TUCKER of Danville, Illinois; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter Jaynee.
Funeral services were held at the Powell Funeral Home in north English on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 with Pastor Don Ridenour officiating. Burial with military rites was held in the North English Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established for the Colfax Public Library.

Thursday, 14 June 2001The Family of Joe TUCKER would like to thank the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, the Colfax Police Department, and the Colfax Rescue Team for their prompt response to the emergency call when Joe suffered his heart attack. We appreciated everything that you did to try to help him. We would also like to thank all of our friends and neighbors for the kind expression of sympathy you’ve extended. Thank you for all of the food you brought to the home, the cards you sent, the memorial contributions, and the phone calls. It has been comforting to the family. Joe was a very special person to all of our family, and he will be eternally missed. Your kindness has been very touching.
