Carl J. MESSER, 91, of 1102 W. Carpenter Ave., Fairfield, died at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Marvin Robeck officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.
Open visitation will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield. A memorial has been established to First Lutheran Church and may be mailed to the family at 1102 W. Carpenter Ave., Fairfield 52556.
Mr. MESSER was born Dec. 20, 1909, in Penn township of Jefferson County, the son of John E. and Della LYNN MESSER. He married Marjorie Marie RODENMAYER Feb. 5, 1936, at First Lutheran Church.
A lifetime resident of Jefferson County., Mr. MESSER graduated from Fairfield High School in 1928 and received his bachelors degree from Parsons College in 1932. He was a farmer and machinist at Rockwell Standard in Fairfield until his retirement in 1974. He also worked for Stallman Transfer and drove a school bus.
He served as president of the Jefferson County School Board in the 1950s during the reorganization of the Fairfield Community School District.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church and had served on the church council, was a member of the church choir and had served as Sunday school superintendent.
Survivors include his wife; and two daughters, Carol MESSER of Fairfield and Janet MESSER of Jacksonville, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, J. Ernest MESSER.
