Thelma Helen ROLAND, 89, of Birmingham, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at her home.

The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Birmingham United Methodist Church in Birmingham, with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Visitation for family and friends will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday prior to the funeral at the church.

Memorials can be made to Birmingham United Methodist Church. Memorials and cards can be sent to 2762 Highway 1, Birmingham 52535. On-line condolences can be sent to www.behnerfh.com.

Behner Funeral Home & Crematory in Fairfield is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. ROLAND was born May 7, 1924, in Fairfield, the daughter of James and Rhea BYERS STANSBERRY. She married James W. ROLAND Jan. 29, 1945, in Fairfield. He died Aug. 29, 2012.

Mrs. ROLAND graduated from Libertyville High School. She and her husband lived in the Birmingham area, where she was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church and the Red Hat Society.

She loved cooking for family and friends.

Survivors include three children: Kathy CONGER and Floyd GOURLEY of Fairfield, Richard ROLAND and wife Connie of Clarksville, Tenn., and Dennis ROLAND of Birmingham; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Kathleen BRUMM of Indianola and Jeannie CHRISTENSEN of Chetek, Wis.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: John and Robert Jr. STANSBERRY.
