Gilbert Leo MONSON, 94, of Route 1 died at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, 1996, at Parkview Care Center.
The service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society, Jefferson County.
MONSON was born July 14, 1901, in Fairfield, the son of Oscar W. and Mary HILLGREEN MONSON. On April 7, 1927, he married Dorothy Marie CATONA in Mount Pleasant. She died April 25, 1990. He had lived in Jefferson County since 1946 and before that in Baton Rouge, La., where he was employed at Stone-Webster Co. When he moved back to the Fairfield area, he worked for Kurka Construction and built homes in the area.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Jean BARR of Pine Have, Wyo.; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by six sisters, Lydia JOHNSON, Ruth HILLMAN, Pearl CASE, Bessie McCORMICK and Ruby, who died in infancy; three brothers, Harold, Clifford and Leonard.
