Dean W. VORHIES

Cean W. VORHIES, 73, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at home.

A memorial committal will be held at a later date. The body has been cremated.

Friends may sign the register and leave memorials from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to New Sweden Methodist Cemetery and Lockridge Cemetery.

Mr. VORHIES was born Jan. 30, 1940, in Fairfield, the son of Clarence "Swede" and Doris D. BOTTORFF VORHIES.

He grew up in the Lockridge area and attended Lockridge schools.

He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1959.

He was a longtime baker, working as a dietary employee at the Mental Health Institute and Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility for 33 years. He retired from this position in 1995.

After retirement, he made deliveries for Bud's Flower Shop.

Most recently, he was employed at Iris City Antique Mall.

He was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge.

Survivors include several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kevin and Richard VORHIES.
