Eileen ELSINGER

Eileen ELSINGER, 72, of Fairfield, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

A funeral is at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with Jennifer Hamilton officiating in the Vedic rite cremation ceremony.

The family will receive friends after the funeral, from 3-5 p.m., at 606 E. Washington Ave.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Sun Ministries at 2581 Glasgow Road, Fairfield 52556. Leave the memo line on a check blank.

Mrs. ELSINGER was born Oct. 23, 1941, near Huron in Fairfield Township, South Dakota, the daughter of Loretta and Earl BISCHOFF. She married Roger ELSINGER in 1968.

She grew up on the family farm, the oldest of six children.

She attended Presentation College in Aberdeen, S.D. and spent seven years teaching elementary school as a Sister of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She resigned from the order.

She and her husband were introduced to the Transcendental Meditation program in 1975 and moved to Fairfield.

She was an elementary school teacher at Maharishi School in Fairfield for three years and at Radiance School in Radiance, Texas, for five years.

After returning to Fairfield, she earned a master's degree in professional writing from Maharishi International University. She was an intern in the professional writing program for three years.

She taught computer literacy for four years at Maharishi middle school.

She was the grant writer for Maharishi School for 10 years until Parkinson's disease forced her retirement.

She was a participant in the Invincible America course as long as she was physically able.

She loved to meditate and to write. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist and piano teacher. She enjoyed studying health and nutrition and learning ballroom dancing. She belonged to an investment club.

Survivors include one daughter, Zoe KIVIO of Fairfield; three sisters, Marilyn STEDER of Dixon, Ill., Jeanne BISCHOFF of Minneapolis and Joan DANFORTH of Huron, S.D.; and two brothers, Gerald BISCHOFF of Huron and John H. BISCHOFF of Acampo, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her former spouse and her parents.
