“A PATRIARCH GONE. George Anderson, familiarly known as Father Anderson, has been gathered to his fathers, and is now among the blest, singing the songs he loved so well. He died Tuesday, March 1, 1881, on the farm of his son-in-law, James A. Galliher, in Cedar Township, where he has lived for several years with one of his daughters. Father Anderson was in the 97th year of his age, the oldest person in Jefferson County, and in his own expressive language, has been ready for the call of the Master for the past twenty years. For 73 years he has been a member of the M.E. Church, and for many years was a local preacher in that society. He has resided in Jefferson County for 30 years, and in all that time no one has uttered a word against the character of Father Anderson…..He was born in Kentucky, removed from there to Indiana, and thence to Iowa. He has several children living and many great and great great grandchildren. He lived to a ripe old age and is now with the redeemed in Heaven. Peace rests with his ashes.”
