JOHN HINKLE DIES TUESDAY

Death Results From Shock Suffered In Tree-Felling Accident

John HINKLE, 68, passed away at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson County Hospital, as a result of shock received when his leg was crushed in an accident which occured (sic) while he was felling trees yesterday afternoon.

Mr. HINKLE is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dora RICHARDS HINKLE, one son, Clarence, one daughter, Mrs. Dwight MESSENGER, two sisters, Mrs. Phil RICH and Mrs. Jennie BRANNON, two brothers, Pete HINKLE and Henry HINKLE, and one nephew, Arthur RICH.

The body was taken to the Cookus Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.

Note:
John HINKLE was born January 18, 1868 and died January 12, 1937. He was a son of Valentine HINKLE and Elizabeth BALDOSIER HINKLE.

The Jefferson County death record for John HINKLE specified the undertaker/funeral home, but did not specify where he was to be buried. Because of that lack of information his entry in certain Jefferson County cemetery transcriptions either noted that he had "no stone" or was inadvertently listed in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery as being buried there because two siblings (Ernest and Sophia) were, in fact, buried in that cemetery.

Thanks to information provided by a living HINKLE family descendant it has been confirmed that John was actually buried in Green Mound Cemetery, Trenton, Henry county, Iowa - where his parents and other HINKLE ancestors were/are buried.

John's wife was Dora B. RICHARDS HINKLE (1875-1965) and they both share a common headstone with inscriptions in Green Mound Cemetery.

The birth date for John was rounded in Jefferson County cemetery listings to be 1869 based on his age at death being 68. His actual birth date was January 18, 1868, and his headstone inscription uses 1868 for the birth year.
