The service for Mary KURTZ, 86, of Fairfield, who died at 8:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 1993, at Nelson Nursing Home, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. William Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The rosary will be recited by the Altar and Rosary Society at 4 p.m. today at Raymond Funeral Home, where prayers for a Christian wake will be at 7 tonight. The family has established a memorial.
Mrs. KURTZ was born May 16, 1906, at Hiteman in Monroe County. She received an associate degree from Ottumwa Heights College in 1928. On May 28, 1930, she married Leon KURTZ in Ottumwa. He died Nov. 16, 1982. She graduated from Parsons College in 1958 with a teaching degree and taught school in Fairfield, Lockridge and Batavia until her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.
Surviving are three daughters, Pat RANDALL of Iowa City, Jeri POWERS of Fort Madison, Delores HERROD of Denver, Colo.; three sons, Jim of Fairfield, Greg of Chino Valley, Ariz., Danny of Arizona; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and a brother, Jim QUINN of Hampton, Ill. A daughter, Jeanette Marie, three grandchildren; two brothers, Frank and John QUINN, and four sisters, Catherine QUINN, Loretta LONGDO, Martha MURRAY and Jeanette QUINN, preceded her in death.
