Gene "Grinny" PACHA, 84, of rural Richland, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
A funeral Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation with the family is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church followed by prayers for a Christian wake at 8 p.m.
Memorials for St. Joseph Cemetery or St. Joseph Church may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 704 E. 13th St., Washington, IA 52353.
Arrangements are in the care of Gould Funeral Home.
Mr. PACHA was born April 12, 1929, west of Pleasant Plain, the son of Frank A. and Bertha C. FRITZ PACHA. He married Dolores Ann CONRAD May 14, 1954, in St. Joseph Church.
He graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1946.
He worked at International Harvester in Rock Island, Ill., for a few years, road construction and later as a molder (sic - moulder) at The Dexter Company and Iowa Malleable in Fairfield for a few years.
Most of his life was spent farming.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He served as a county commissioner for Jefferson County Soil Conservation Commission for more than 20 years.
He sponsored a men's fast pitch softball team for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores; one daughter, Sandra PACHA of Washington; two sons, David PACHA of Columbus, Ga., and Pat PACHA and spouse Tina of Washington; two granddaughters; and one sister, Kathleen R. VASEN of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and an infant brother Gerald; and two sisters, Rita DAY and Lucille DAY.
