Donald S. BAKER, 85, of Farson died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at home.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carl Benge officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs Post No. 83 American Legion.
Inurnment of cremains will be in Compentine (sic - Competine) Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice.
Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. BAKER was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Crawfordsville, the son of Sam A. and Fern May BAKER. He married Alice WEPPLER Nov. 25, 1956 in Lewis.
He graduated from Richland High School.
He served two years in the U.S. Army, in the Korean Conflict.
He worked on road construction as a blade operator. He owned and operated his own asphalt paving business, R and B Construction, and retired in 1994.
He was a member of Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church and Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs Post No. 83 American Legion.
Survivors include is his wife (sic), Alice; two daughters, Glenda WALKER and spouse Mark and Donelle BAKER, all of Hedrick; two sons, Keith BAKER and spouse Dorinda, and Alvin BAKER and spouse Jill, all of Hedrick; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
