Helen Francis PRICKETT, 99, of Salem, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant.
A funeral is at 1 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel in New London, with the Rev. Jared Haley officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London (note: in Henry Co., IA).
Visitation begins at noon Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established for Salem Friends Church, Relay for Life and the Pleasant Manor activity fund.
Mrs. PRICKETT was born Sept. 8, 1914, in Winfield, the daughter of Oscar Charles and Charlotte "Lottie" Pearl MUNSHOWER SWAN. She married Virgil George PRICKETT Feb. 23, 1935 in Mount Pleasant. He died Nov. 9, 1972.
She was a 1934 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School.
She was a member of Salem Friends Church.
She was a fulltime homemaker. She loved working with her flowers and tending her garden. She enjoyed just being outside and walking even after she had to use her walker.
She enjoyed music, especially sacred songs. She attended every musical activity at the care center and sang along with any song she knew.
She was proud to be part of five living generations.
Survivors include two sons, Gary PRICKETT and spouse Deborah of Burlington, and Randy PRICKETT of Salem; three daughters, Shirley GIBERSON of Hillsboro, Judy GEORGE and spouse Melvin of Hamilton, Ill., and Barbara PRICKETT of Salem; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lyle SWAN of Mount Pleasant.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by parents; two sons Ronald and James; and one great-grandson.
