Norman R. WATERS, 81, of Fairfield died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

Services are pending at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Norman Richard WATERS

Norman Richard WATERS, 81, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

A memorial service is at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant with Larry Fletcher officiating and military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fairfield and again at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the National Brain Tumor Society at www.braintumor.org or given to the family.

Arrangements are in care of the Raymond Funeral Home of Fairfield and Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. WATERS was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Crawfordsville, the son of Harold and Marian DAVIDSION WATERS. He married Elva ANDERSON Oct. 10, 1958, in Olds.

He was raised in the Crawfordsville community and graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1950. He attended Washington Junior College for a year before joining the military.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict) from March 28, 1952, until his discharge on March 12, 1956. He was stationed out of San Diego and then Hawaii and spent a great deal of time at sea on the destroyer escort "U.S.S. McCoy Reynolds". He was honored to serve on the admirals' staff and was offered an assignment at the Pentagon but decided to be discharged and return to Iowa.

He graduated from Iowa City Business College and began his career as an accountant. He worked at Iowa Steel and Iron in Cedar Rapids before moving to Fairfield and working for Universal Producing Company for 15 years. He was the cost accountant for Hawkeye Steel Products in Houghton for 38 years and continued there part time until Dec. 31, 2012.

Survivors include his wife Elva of Fairfield; one daughter, JoEllyn OWENS and husband Robert of Wichita Falls, Texas; one son, Scott WATERS and wife Peggy of Iowa City; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy LARSON.
