Death of Mrs. HOWELL.

On Friday morning last, at her home in this city, occurred the death of Mrs. Kate J. HOWELL, wife of George Howell, a lady highly esteemed in this city, which had been her home for many years. Her death was caused by cancer, a disease from which she had been a sufferer for several years, and which she and her friends realized must ultimately end in death. She submitted to several surgical operations in hope of curing the disease, but all endeavors were futile other than to prolong her life. During all these hours of pain and anxiety she bore her sufferings patiently and meekly and almost without a murmur. She feared not to die, but her love for husband and children bound her close to earth. Mrs. HOWELL was the eldest daughter of Jedediah MOUNT, of this city. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio, May 8th, 1836. In 1854 she removed to Fairfield with her father's family, which place has been her home ever since. In 1856 she was married to George HOWELL. Six children were born to them, three of whom all sons, the eldest about 15, the youngest about six years, survive their mother. Mrs. HOWELL was a most loving and devoted wife and mother, and her home was one of happiness. As a neighbor and friend she was tender and thoughtful, and during her years of residence here she had won many friends and formed many lastint attachments. The funeral occurred form her late residence Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Dr. Ewing, of whose church Mrs. HOWELL was a member at the time of her death, assisted by Rev. Bamford, of the M. E. church.

Death came to the relief of Mrs. Kate J. HOWELL, wife of George HOWELL, this city, last Saturday morning, after a long and severe sickness. She had for a number of years been a most intense but always patient sufferer from the effects of a cancer, and it was this disease that finally caused her death. Her death is very sad, not only because she leaves a family of little children that needed her care, but because, fairly against hope, she still felt that she would recover. Her love for her family was very strong, and however much she suffered, she was willing to bear the pain so long as she might remain with her loved ones. Mrs. HOWELL was the daughter of Jedediah MOUNT, this city, and was born in Ohio in 1836. She came to Fairfield in 1854 with her parents, and in 1856 was married. Of six children born to her, three are still living, all of them boys not yet grown. The funeral took place from the residence Sunday afternoon at four o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev. T. D. Ewing, of the Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. HOWELL was a member.
