Monday, May 9, 1988HUGHES funeral held today
The funeral service was held this afternoon for Hazel GRANT HUGHES, 97, a resident of the Nelson Nursing Home since Sept. 17, 1984, who died Thursday, May 5, 1988, at 10:45 a.m. at the nursing home.
The Rev. Clair Odell officiated at the 2 p.m. service, held at the Raymond Funeral Home. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church and may be left at the funeral home.
She was born Aug. 20, 1890, at Glasgow, the daughter of James E. and Jennie TAYLOR GRANT. She grew up near Glasgow and taught school prior to her marriage to O. Newton HUGHES on April 15, 1914, at the home of her parents near Glasgow.
She lived her entire married life in Fairfield and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Fairfield Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 9, 1970, and one brother. She is survived by a daughter, Louise EGGER of Kingsport, Tenn., a son Milford E. "Knute" HUGHES of West Simsburg, Conn.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother Glenn GRANT of Fairfield.
