Ralph J. HACKERT

Ralph J. HACKERT, 87, of Richland, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at Maplewood Manor in Keota.

A funeral is 10 a.m. Friday at Richland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Wilbur Morfit and the Rev. Carl Benge officiating. Burial will follow in the Reed Family Cemetery on the family farm near Richland.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Lewy Body Dementia Association or Hospice Compassus.

Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont, is handling arrangements.

Mr. HACKERT was born March 20, 1926, on the family farm south of Pella, the son of Cornelius and Grace DeZWAART HACKERT. He married Mary CARPENTER Dec. 19, 1946, near Reasor. She died in February 2013.

He attended Richland School by Pella.

He and his wife established the family farm north of Richland in 1957 and worked on the farm together for many years.

He had the spirit of an entrepreneur, which he brought to many other family businesses. He enjoyed working with family.

He and his wife enjoyed square dancing.

He was an excellent pool player.

He had a tenor voice and was approached several times to sing professionally. He and his wife provided music for many occasions.

He was a member of Richland United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four children, Bonnie INGERSOLL and spouse Dale of Richland, Sharon TRANER and spouse Mark of Milwaukee, Wis., Rhonda NOEL and spouse Mike of Richland and Craig HACKERT and spouse Darcy of Richland; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Carl HACKERT, Edna VanDenBERG, Ruth STEINHOEK and Florence VanGORP.
