Dorothy Pearl Sayre, 95, formerly of Keosauqua died at 1:07 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at West Point Care Center in West Point, Iowa.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with family present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials to West Point Care Center may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 14378 Highway 2, Cantril 52542.

Mrs. Sayre was born April 25, 1908, in Iola, Kan., the daughter of John and Lucy Hawkins Voigt. She married Delbert Elwin Sayre May 11, 1935, in Fort Madison. He died April 21, 1986.

As a young woman, she moved to Washington, Iowa, from Kansas with her mother, stepfather, James Fisher, sister, Hazel, and half-brother, James Fisher Jr.

She and her husband lived on his home place, a 10-acre truck farm in Washington, then moved to a farm near Pittsburg when their family was young.

Later, they moved to Keosauqua and operated Sayre's Grocery Store.

Survivors include two sons, David E. Sayre and Richard D. Sayre, both of Keosauqua; two daughters, Betty M. Thomas of Cantril and F. Irene Kammerer of Leavenworth, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; one half-brother; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
