Iliff LEU, who recently retired as head of the industrial arts department at the Fairfield Community High School, died suddenly early this morning at a clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
Suffering from a heart condition, he had gone to the clinic last Sunday for a series of tests preceding possible heart surgery. He underwent tests Monday, and was to undergo more today.
Last rites for the veteran school instructor are pending.
LEU had served as head of the industrial arts department at FHS for 30 years prior to his retirement this past spring because of ill health. He suffered a heart attack 3 1/2 weeks before the end of the school year.
Iliff LEU is survived by his wife and two sons, Richard and Don.

Memorial services have been tentatively set for Saturday for Iliff LEU, longtime Fairfield Community High School teacher who died Tuesday morning at a clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
Members of the family will announce the exact time, place and date for the service in the immediate future.
LEU had undergone tests at the clinic Monday and was scheduled for more on Tuesday. He died in his sleep early Tuesday morning.
LEU willed his body to science and it remained at the Cleveland Clinic.
The former longtime teacher had gone to Cleveland for examination and tests prior to possible heart surgery. He had suffered a heart attack a short time before school was out this past spring at which time he retired.
Coming to the Fairfield Community High School in 1943, he had served as head of the industrial arts department for 30 years. In his work and in his special way with young people, he has influenced thousands of students who passed through his classes.
LEU graduated from the Fairfield High School and later from Parsons College with a BS degree in mathematics and physics in 1930. He received his master's degree from the University of Iowa in 1942.
He filled a number of teaching positions and had served as principal, superintendent and coach at other high schools before coming to the Fairfield school system 30 years ago.
In addition he had taught industrial arts during the summer months over a period of six years in Iowa penal institutions.
He was presented the Community Service Award by the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce for the year 1967, and served as a member of the Chamber Christmas Decorating Committee for a number of years.
The family home is located at 507 E. Jefferson.
Iliff LEU was born Oct. 14, 1907, in Henry County, the son of Christian O. and Myrtie C. JENNINGS LEU. His marriage to Ella Ruth TRAIL took place June 21, 1933. She survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Donald, who lives at Ames; and Richard, Fairfield, and one grandson. Other survivors include five brothers: Roy, Fairfield; Harvey, Danville; Clifford, Walker; Edison, Mount Pleasant; John, St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel DRESSEN, Chicago; and Mrs. Ruth RUHL, Santa Barbara, Calif.
Iliff LEU was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter.
A memorial fund has been established at the Friends Church. Contributions may be sent to Mrs. Kenneth P. McIntire, 703 E. Madison.
