Barbara DOWNING, 60, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at a hospital in Chicago.

Barbara J. DOWNING

Barbara J. DOWNING, 60, of Fairfield and formerly of Davis County, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at the Cancer Treatment Center in Chicago.

A memorial service is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Word of Life Lutheran Church. The body has been cremated and burial of cremains will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arc of Jefferson County serving individuals with disabilities.

Mrs. DOWNING was born May 31, 1953, at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, the daughter of Claude "Boots" and Dortla "Friend" WHITE. She married James N. DOWNING Oct. 23, 1976.

The couple owned and operated the Downing Grocery, Appliance and AC Business in Pulaski and Radio Shack in Bloomfield.

They moved to Fairfield and she worked at O'Reilly Auto Parts.

Survivors include her husband, Jim of Fairfield; one son, Brandon of Mount Pleasant; one daughter, Marcella of Ames; two sisters, Sharon THOMAS of Bloomfield and Connie FIEDLER of Eldon.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
