COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE

DEATH OF WILLIAM DELLINGER.

Editors Ledger:-- William DELLINGER died at his residence in Polk township on the 25th inst., from pneumonia. Mr. DELLINGER was in the 73d year of his age, being born in Warren county, Virginia, in September, 1814. In 1836 he was married to Sarah Ann MUCKS (sic - MAUCK). Both were born and reared in the same county, attended the same schools and churches, and lived together as husband and wife for more than 50 years, having celebrated their golden wedding last September. They removed to Cumberland, Ohio, in 1839, and lived there six years, during which time Mr. D. joined the M. E. church, of which he has been a consistent member since 1842. He moved to this county in the fall of 1845. Had 12 children, seven boys and five girls, four of whom died in infancy. One laid down his life for his country, dying at Little Rock, Ark., at the age of 18 years. Another died at home at the age of 23 years, leaving three sons and three daughters to mourn the loss of a kind father, whose door was ever open, whose smile always greeted every child and friend, and whose table was always free to all who called. Mr. D. will be sadly missed by a large circle of friends, but much more by his aged wife, for whom he had such close and tender care for so long a time, and who, to all earthly appearances, would have been taken first, as she has been an invalid for years. But an unerring Providence ordered otherwise, and Bro. DELLINGER, who has always been so uncomplaining, is taken in his first sickness. We shall remember him as one always willing to bear his part in everything--his hospitality, his kind welcome that greeted every one. Few who are left have been so long and so fully identified with the interests of this community. The remains were interred in the Brooks cemetery on Sunday, the 27th inst.
