Phyllis Kay HIRD

Phyllis Kay HIRD, 64, of Germanville, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Salina Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Clarence Anderson and the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be in Salina Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established. Cards and memoriald may be sent to 1365 Germanville Road, Brighton 52540.

Mrs. HIRD was born March 13, 1949, in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of Merlyn D. and Emma Kay SMITH ANDERSON. She married Jerry LeRoy HIRD March 13, 1982.

She graduated from Fairfield High School in the class of 1967.

She worked for 21 years as a licensed practical nurse at Henry County Hospital long-term care and 19 years at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Mount Pleasant.

She lived most of her life in Walnut Township.

She was a member of Ladies Aide and Iowa State Nurses Association.

She was a lifetime member of Salina Presbyterian Church and a member of the Dorcas Society.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry HIRD; three daughters, Ranee FLADUNG and spouse Alan of Wellman, Kaleen HIRD and spouse Stefano TERRY of Culver City, Calif., and Alisha HIRD of Brighton; four stepchildren, Bill HIRD of Lockridge, Sherry MYERS of Georgia, Joseph HIRD and spouse Melanie of Libertyville and Jeremy HIRD of Fairfield; two grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and five siblings, Roy ANDERSON, Elaine ANDERSON, Kathleen ANDERSON and Robert ANDERSON, all of Brighton, and Richard ANDERSON of Storm Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Roger ANDERSON; one stepdaughter, Marsha STEVENS; and two step-grandchildren.
