Samuel T. BAILEY

Samuel T. BAILEY, 97, of Paducah, Ky., and formerly of Mobile, Ala., Chicago and Griswold, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.

A funeral is at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Sweden Lutheran Chapel in rural Lockridge, with the Rev. Kenneth Smith officiating. Burial will be in New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery.

No visitation is planned.

Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant is assisting the family.

Mr. BAILEY was born May 8, 1916, on a farm southeast of Griswold, the son of Samuel T. and Clara R. WILFONG BAILEY. He married Hope Victoria LILLYBLADE of the Four Corners area, rural Lockridge. She died Oct. 23, 2008.

He graduated from Griswold High School in 1934.

He worked at Shaeffer Pen Company in Fort Madison.

He was a member of the Pipe Fitter's Local 597 of Chicago for more than 67 years. He was retired from the union for 30 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the former United States Army Air Corps.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

Upon retirement in 1986, he and his wife moved to Mobile, Ala., and spent summers in Malden, Ill., to be near family.

The couple moved to Paducah to live with daughter, Debra BAILEY, about seven years ago.

Survivors include four daughters, Debra BAILEY of Paducah, Diane PETKUNAS and husband Ron of Oswego, Ill., Karen NELSON and husband Fines of Dewey, Ariz., and Barbara WILKS of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho; two sons, Kevin BAILEY and wife Mary of Orland Park, Ill., and David BAILEY of Paragould, Ark; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Hope, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Gary and Jack BAILEY; four brothers, Orville, Harold, Sheldon and J.C. BAILEY; and two sisters, Garnet WATZNAUR and Gladys MASON.
