Mrs. BATES, 87, Taken In Death

Mrs. Perry Bates, 87, died at 6:46 a.m. today at Nelson Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

Last rites will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Wilson Hyde officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Florence Gertrude BATES was born April 15, 1881 (sic - 1882), south of Fairfield, the daughter of John and Margaret McWHIRTER McDONALD. She was reared and educated in Fairfield.

On March 6, 1901, she was married to Perry Bates. He preceded her in death April 15, 1965. She was also preceded in death by one brother.

Survivors include two sons: Hubert BATES, Ottumwa; and Maurice BATESs, Ames; one daughter Mrs. Gladys STEVER, Newton; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Others include three sisters, Hazel McDONALD, Mrs. Jennie CHAMBERS and Mrs. Margaret CRAIL, all of Fairfield.
