Samuel L. COX

Samuel L. COX, 92, of Two Harbors, Minn., died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 1996, at Lakeview Home in Two Harbors.

The service was Jan 5, at the Cavallin Funeral Home, with burial in Lakeview Cemetery, both at Two Harbors.

COX was born July 26, 1903, in Fairfield, the son of Link and Letha SIMMONS COX. He grew up in southern Minnesota, where he worked on a dairy farm and drove a school bus. He moved to Lake County in 1928. He lived in Little Marais and Finland, where he made fish boxes and worked as a logger. He moved to rural Two Harbors in 1942 and was a truck driver for Lake County Highway Department for eight years. He later was a carpenter in the bridge and building department of the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway for 17 years, retiring in 1968.

He was a member of United Church, Moose, Legion of the Moose and its Fellowship Degree, and the North Shore Golden Age Club. He also was a 4-H leader for 20 years.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth; a son, John of Two Harbors; a daughter, Joan MELENDEZ of Roswell, N.M.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Iva TARRENCE of Fairfield; a niece and a grandnephew.

He was preceded in death by a son, Sherman, in infancy; and two brothers, Dan COX and Frank HUDSON.
