Monday, February 20, 1978Dick DROZ Dies At 53
STOCKPORT - Richard V. DROZ, 53, former member of the police department in Fairfield and later a tavern owner in Stockport, died Saturday at Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City. His death followed a lengthy illness.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield with the Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Member of the family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m.
Richard V. DROZ was born July 2, 1924, in Fairfield. He was the son of Lawrence J. and Phena May VILES DROZ. He was reared and educated in Fairfield and lived all of his life in the Fairfield and Stockport Communities.
His marriage to Eva HESTON took place Dec. 8, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and joined the Fairfield Police Department in 1953. After serving as an officer for ten years he resigned when he and his wife purchased a farm. Later they moved to Stockport where they began operating the Ponderosa tavern.
In addition to his widow DROZ is survived by five brothers: Jack and Perry both of Fairfield; Clifford, Keosauqua; Marshall, Ottumwa; and John, Litchfield, Minn.; three sisters, Velma COLEMAN, Birmingham; Mary MITCHELL, Ottumwa; and Louise WHITE, Ottumwa; one stepsister, Mary Belle BRADLEY, Fairfield.
DROZ was preceded in death by his parents and one son in infancy.
