Ferd WULFF Takes Life

Funeral services for Ferd H. WULFF, retired Fairfield businessman who took his own life Sunday, will be Tuesday afternoon at the Weston Behner Funeral Home.

WULFF's body was found about 9:15 a.m. Sunday near Evergreen Cemetery where Jefferson County authorities said he took his own life with a gun.

Tuesday's rites will be in 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dean W. Berg officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery where military rites will be conducted.

WULFF had been in the furniture business in Fairfield since 1946. The store was first located at 112 N. Main and was called the Fairfield Furniture Store. The name was later changed to Wulff Furniture Store. The name was later changed to Wulff Furniture and moved to the corner of Briggs and Main where the Gibson Discount Store is now located.

In 1965 Ferd WULFF sold his interest in the firm to his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Bill WULFF, and in May, 1969, the store was moved to its present location at 1401 S. Main. Although semi-retired, Ferd WULFF was at the store most every day.

Ferd H. WULFF, 75, was born Aug. 23, 1897, at Sioux Falls, S.D., the son of William and Elizabeth ZENTAL WULFF. He attended schools in Sioux Falls and served in the U.S. Army during World War I in France and Germany.

He entered the furniture business soon after his discharge from military service.

He was married April 5, 1928, to Dorothy L. SCHUMANN who died April 14, 1968.

He is survived by one son, William WULFF, Fairfield, and a daughter, Mrs. Beth WILLIAMSON, Anaheim, Calif., and five grandchildren.

He was a member of the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I, American Legion, VFW, 40, and 8 Club in Des Moines and the First Lutheran Church.
