Dorothy E. McCRACKEN, 96, of Brighton, died today, Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.
Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

Dorothy E. McCRACKEN, 96, of rural Brighton, died Wednesday morning May 15, 2013, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield following a brief illness.
She was born in Fairfield, IA September 18, 1916, to William C. and Georgia E. PETZINGER MANNING.
Dorothy grew up in the Libertyville area and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1933. She then attended Normal Training at the Iowa State Teachers College, now known as the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
Dorothy married Alfred W. McCRACKEN June 3, 1945 in the Mt. Zion Church near Libertyville. He died August 24, 1982.
She and her husband farmed in the Pleasant Plain area for many years.
She was a school teacher for over 10 years, drove a school bus, loved to garden, sew and quilt.
Dorothy was a long time member of the Pleasant Plain Friends Church.
Dorothy is survived by her son Bill of Brighton, two daughters: Donna REYNOLDS (David) of Jacksonville, FL and Joan THOMAS (John) of Sparta, NJ, eight grandchildren: Jocelyn ENGMAN (Tim), Alisha JEDDELOH (Joel), Nathan McCRACKEN (Shandra), Lucas McCRACKEN (Kari), Jeremy REYNOLDS (Carly), Jackie REYNOLDS, Andrew GARZA and Abby THOMAS, 8 great grandchildren and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters: Isobel TEETER and Wilda RAMSEY.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 20, 2013, at the Pleasant Plain Friends Church with Rev. J. 'Mac' McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Plain Friends Cemetery.
Visitation will open at 3 P.M. Sunday May 19, 2013, with the family present 5-7 P.M. at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials for either Quakerdale Children's Home or the Lord's Cupboard and they may be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to the family at 1270 Jefferson Washington Road, Brighton, IA 52540.
Arrangements are in the care of Gould Funeral Home of Brighton.
