Bernice M. BOTTORFF

Former Richland resident Bernice M. BOTTORFF, 91, died early the morning of Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Bishop Drumm Care Center at Johnston.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland with the Revs. Harlan Van Voorst and Jane Jordan officiating. Burial will be in the Richland Friends Cemetery. Friends may begin calling at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon, and the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials have been established to the Richland Library or Praire View Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

The daughter of Lewis A. and Delphina J. McELDERRY PEEBLER, she was born near Batavia on March 21, 1909. She grew up near Batavia and graduated from Batavia High School. She received her teacher's certification from Parsons College in Fairfield, then taught country school for four years.

On June 25, 1930, she married Lloyd W. BOTTORFF. They farmed in the Richland and Packwood areas for 50 years. They moved to Richland in 1971. Mr. BOTTORFF died on Dec. 5, 1988, and Mrs. BOTTORFF moved to Johnston in 1991 and entered the Bishop Drumm Care Center in May 1992.

She was a member of the Richland Public Library Board of Directors, both the Friday Night and Saturday Afternoon Bridge Clubs, Priscilla Club and Packwood United Methodist Church and Packwood United Methodist Church. She had attended the Woolson Friends Church near Richland.

Mrs. BOTTORFF is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou NORTHBRIDGE of Mattituck, N.Y., and Marcia POSTON of Ankeny; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Floyd, and her twin, Bernard.
