Helen Elizabeth GRIFFITHS, 93, of Keosauqua, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, in Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A funeral is at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Center Chapel United Methodist Church, southeast of Keosauqua, with the Rev. Douglas Harding officiating. Burial will be in Center Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation opens at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present 5-7 p.m., followed by an Eastern Star service by Twin City Chapter.

Memorials to Center Chapel United Methodist Church, Keosauqua Public Library or donor's choice may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 1504 Second Street, Keosauqua 52565.

Mrs. GRIFFITHS was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Burlington the daughter of Henry Oetken and Eda LOHMANN KOHRS. She married David Lee GRIFFITHS, June 13, 1943, at Oak Street Baptist Church in Burlington.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1937 and from the University of Iowa in 1941.

She taught at Keosauqua High School and substituted for many years at Van Buren High School.

She and her husband owned and operated a farm southeast of Keosauqua until they retired in 1987 and moved to town.

She was a member of Center Chapel United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star, past worthy matron of Lynds Chapter in Keosauqua, a member of Twin City Chapter in Douds and past grand chaplain of Iowa, O.E.S.

She was a member of Alpha Delphian Club, Chapter I, P.E.O., Van Buren Retired School Personnel, Cut-Up Quilt Club, a member of the Country Lanes Apartments Board, past district chairwoman of Farm Bureau Women, Merit Mother of Iowa in 1984, was a recipient of Governor's Volunteer Award and Rainbow Grand Cross of Color, was past president of Keosauqua Mothers Club, Chapter BY, T.T.T. Society, and Center Chapel United Methodist Women, past Ottumwa Distruct U.M.W. officer, was a former cub scout den mother and had served as 4-H girls' leader and as 4-H county chairwoman.

She sewed for many years for Christmas for Kids.

She is survived by one son, Gary L. GRIFFITHS and wife Betty of Lewisville, Texas; two granddaughters; and one sister, Dorothy KUEPPER of Sarasota, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
