Death Takes W. N. SMITH

Walter N. SMITH, 77, native of Jefferson County, died at 12:45 p.m. Friday at the Jefferson County Hospital.

He had been in failing health the past several years and entered the hospital Friday a short time before his death.

Last rites will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester C. Werft officiating. Burial will be in the Glasgow Cemetery.

Walter N. SMITH was born Aug. 13, 1895, in Jefferson County. He was the son of Nuby and Anna GIBERSON SMITH. Smith lived his entire life in Jefferson County and served overseas during World War I with the 133rd Engineers. He helped build the Pershing Stadium in France.

He was united in marriage Jan. 24, 1934, to Mildred M. HEISEL who survives. The family home is on rural route 3 eight miles southeast of Fairfield.

Other survivors include four sisters, Hattie E. SMITH, Mrs. Elsie HALL and Mrs. Birdie HANNA, all of Mount Pleasant; and Mrs. Grace WIDICK, Burlington.

SMITH was preceded in death by one brother.

**I research the HALL lineage.**

Admin. note: Wife Mildred died in 1988 and is buried with him.
