Colleen Evelyn GIBSON

Colleen Evelyn GIBSON, age 69, of Fairfield Iowa, died at 9:30 am on Thursday, April 11, 2013 following a heart attack. Her passing was quick and peaceful, though very unexpected for those who knew and loved this energetic, vital woman.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 17 at 7:30 pm in Dalby Hall, Maharishi University of Management.

Born September 20, 1943 in Chapleau, Ontario, Canada to Clifford GIBSON and Beatrice Evelyn MOORE, Colleen was the youngest of two daughters and little sister to Judith Ena GIBSON. Following graduation from Sudbury Secondary high school, she trained as a nurse at St. Joseph's hospital, beginning a commitment to the service of humanity, which would outlast her career as a nurse and continue throughout her life.

In 1989, Colleen - a longtime practitioner of Transcendental Meditation and the TM Siddhi Program - retired from nursing at Sudbury General Hospital and moved to Fairfield with her two daughters to pursue a B.A. in literature at Maharishi University of Management. She went on to complete an M.A. in Vedic studies and became an employee of M.U.M., most recently as manager of its Ayurvedic health care clinic.

Colleen loved music, writing letters, reading mystery novels, and enjoying nature in all its forms. She could often be found "playing in the dirt" in the M.U.M. community garden. Above all, though, Colleen loved people and devoted her life to enriching the lives of others through nursing, Ayurveda, and through her study of Vedic Knowledge and her unwavering commitment to the practice of Transcendental Meditation and the TM Siddhis.

She is survived by her daughters, Janet Elizabeth SCHRUM and Christine Evelyn SCHRUM; her sister, Judith Ena GIBSON; nephews Shane, Ken and Brian KIRKBY, niece Joy Evelyn; dear friends Gloria Granger, David Schrum, Mitch Hibbs, and her two grandchildren, in addition to many friends and loved ones all over the world.
