Manerva JOHNSON rite Tuesday.

Manerva E. JOHNSON, 74, 408 South D St., died at 2:44 p.m. Saturday June 18, 1988, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at Raymond Funeral Home. Memorials to Fairfield Women's Club, Fairfield Senior Citizen Center or First Presbyterian Church may be left at the funeral home.

Miss JOHNSON was born Sept. 13, 1913, in Fairfield, the daughter of Fred C. and Dottie A. RUSSELL JOHNSON. She attended Washington Grade School, graduated from Fairfield High School in 1932, from Parsons College in 1938 (the upcoming Parsons reunion would have been her 50-year reunion), and received a master's degree in social studies from Drake University of Michigan, Michigan State, and Wayne State University studying for her Ph.D. She was selected for a special studies program at the American University of Washington, D.C.

Departmental head of social studies for the city of Grosse Point, Mich., she taught social studies in addition to her administrative duties until retiring in 1975, when she returned to Fairfield to live. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Chapter HA, PEO; the Women's Club Chorus, DAR, Fairfield Art Association, past president of the Retired Teachers Association in Fairfield, organizational board member of Fairfield Senior Citizens, a member of Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Fairfield Golf and Country Club, Friendship Force, and a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma at Grosse Pointe. A world traveler, she visited 46 countries in her lifetime.

Surviving is a sister, Dixie A. JOHNSON of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, who were liftime residents of Fairfield.
