Marie BARTON, 100, of Mount Pleasant died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Dave Plooster and the Rev. Ron Vander Hart officiating. Burial will be in Lambirth Cemetery.

Visitation began at noon today at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to the Lambirth Cemetery and the Iowa Chapter of Muscular Dystrophy.

Mrs. BARTON was born Sept. 20, 1903, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Fred C. and Melinda Bell LITTON McELWEE. She married J.F. BARTON Sept. 20, 1922, in Mount Pleasant. He died July 7, 1982.

The BARTONs farmed in the Round Prairie vicinity until Mr. BARTONs death. Mrs. BARTONs pastimes included flowers, gardening, music and her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Elloise MOYLE and husband Richard of Mount Pleasant, and Wanda WESLEY, also of Mount Pleasant; one son, Wesely BARTON and wife Gerry of Mount Pleasant; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Joe WESLEY; two brothers, Everett McELWEE and Thomas McELWEE; one sister, Mildred CHARBONNEAU; one infant grandson; and one great-grandson.
