PACKWOOD - Herman KURTZ, 55, former member of the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Burlington Medical Center in Burlington.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield with the Rev. William Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation and prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Masses or Cancer Fund.
KURTZ served as a member of the Board of Supervisors from Jan. 1, 1977 to December 1, 1980, serving on a number of its special boards, some as chairman. The family home is on Route 1, Packwood.
KURTZ was born March 10, 1929, at Pleasant Plain. He was the son of Gerald and Emma LEDGER KURTZ. He was reared in the Pleasant Plain and Packwood Communities and graduated from the Packwood High School. He farmed most of his life in the Packwood area.
He was married to Barbara MARLEY July 22, 1950 in St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield. Later he married Eva CREECH ADAMS June 28, 1982, at Wyaconda, Mo. She survives.
Survivors include four children: Mark, Broken Arrow, Okla.; Jeff, Joanne and Pat, all of Packwood. Also two grandchildren and a sister, Marie WARD, Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Kurtz was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, American Legion, VFW, Eagles, Elks and Packwood Lions Club. He served with the U.S. Marines in Korea.
