Shearley C. McDOWELL, 84, of rural Agency died at 2:05 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Good Samaritan Center in Ottumwa.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Agency United Methodist Church with the Rev. Judy Deweber officiating. Burial was in Batavia Cemetery. Visitation Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Agency United Methodist Church and the Good Samaritan Center West Wing or Alzheimer's Center.
Mrs. McDOWELL was born Aug. 14, 1915, in Batavia, the daughter of Guy and Elsie McCLEARY DeVORE. She married Harold McDOWELL Dec. 17, 1937. He died Feb. 16, 1993.
A graduate of Batavia High School in 1933, she was a member of the Agency United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Chief Wapello Association.
Survivors included six daughters, Marcine BAXTER of Richland, Marjorie GILTNER and Gerry ANDERSON, both of Ottumwa, Carolyn HANNAN of Mount Pleasant, Evelyn WELU of Moline, Ill., Faye GREINER of Clarksville, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene LILES of Selma; and three brothers, Carol DeVORE of Batavia, Forrest DeVORE of Eldon and Dennis DeVORE of Floris.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Fern KIPER; and five brothers, Arlo, Paul, Leonard, Lowell and infant Donald DeVORE.
