BATAVIA - Cecil H. "Pete" NELSON, 82, Route 2, Batavia, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday at Sunnyslope Care Center in Ottumwa.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Dave Albert officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to Bladensburg Christian Church and Batavia United Methodist Church.
NELSON was born Jan. 31, 1905 in Henry County, Ill., the son of John and Catherine SLACK NELSON. He married Martha LIGGETT June 11, 1935. She died Oct. 22, 1976. He had lived in Bladensburg and Batavia communities since 1911. A farmer for 60 years, he had farmed in Locust Grove Township until retiring in 1972.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, A. Leon and Carol NELSON, Route 2, Batavia; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Chester of Cambridge, Ill.; three sisters, Kathryn LIGGETT of Martinsburg, Eva SCARBOROUGH and Helen SPARKS, both of Fairfield. Two sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.
