Helen Roberta SPARKS, 81, 1825 Highway 1, died at 1:59 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Jefferson County Heart Association or to First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. SPARKS was born March 26, 1917, in Batavia, the daughter of John and Jennie SLACK NELSON. She married Henry SPARKS July 10, 1948, in Anamosa. He died Aug. 30, 1986.
Mrs. SPARKS lived in Jefferson County for more than 50 years. She previously lived northwest of Packwood. She was a rural school teacher for 16 years in the Jefferson County rural school system. She was an office employee for Harper Brush Company until her retirement.
She was a member of Jefferson County Retired Teachers, and Solitaires.
Survivors include one son, Gary of Fairfield; two sisters, Kathryn LIGGETT of Martinsburg and Eva SCARBOROUGH of Fairfield; and two grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Anna and Margaret; and six brothers, William, James, Frederick, Chester, Cecil and George.
