George Louis McCOMBS, 79, 201 E. Fillmore Ave., died at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
The body has been cremated. No funeral service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Jefferson County Heart Fund or to the donor's choice. Memorials and cards also may be sent to his wife Madeline McCOMBS. Behner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McCOMBS was born May 27, 1920, in Ottumwa, the son of B.F. and Margaret LUIPPOLD McCOMBS. He married Madeline SHANK May 27, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo.
He was educated in the Agency school system and graduated from Agency High School in 1938. He was a farmer. He farmed in Washington Township of Wapello County from 196-1990. He had lived in the Fairfield area for the past nine years.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Heritage Club and Keep Young Club, all of Fairfield; Kilwinning Masonic Lodge 198 A.F. & A.M. and Batavia Senior Citizen Center, both in Batavia; Cardinal school board; Libertyville Travelers; FHA-Wapello County; and a past president of Batavia Farmers Telephone Company.
In addition to his wife, survivors include several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ronald McCOMBS; and one sister, Frances WARDER.
