An Old Citizen Gone Home.

Alexander DUNLAVY was born in Donegal, Ireland, May 1st, 1810, and died at his residence near Glasgow, Jefferson county, Iowa, March 27th, 1898. Mr. DULAVY came from Ireland to Canada in 1833. A short time afterward he removed to New York state, and came to Iowa about 1841, locating near Glasgow, where he resided until the day of his death. He was married to Catharine MESSNER in 1843. To them were born six children -- Mrs. Sarah HIATT, Dakota county, Neb., Mrs. Belle RUSSELL, York county, Neb., and Mrs. Anna CHEZUM, John and Geo. DUNLAVY of this county. The youngest, Francis, died near Glasgow, November 29th, 1897. The wife died March 25th, 1890, after a companionship of 55 years. He was a member of the Episcopalian church and was respected and honored by a large circle of friends. His surviving children have the sympathy and condolences of the entire community in this their time of sore trial.

Note: Obituary contributed for transcription and posting by John Cochran, whose ancestor of the same name was a neighbor to Alexander in Kilcar Parish, County Donegal, Ireland. Alexander is buried in Glasgow Cemetery, Jefferson County, IA, with wife Catherine and children Francis and George.
