Dorothy Mae BROWN, 96, of Keokuk and formerly of the Packwood area died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Lexington Square in Keokuk.
The funeral is planned for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. John Abraham officiating. Burial will be at Packwood Cemetery.
Open visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established. Cards and memorials can be sent to 3667 Argyle Road, Keokuk 52632.
Dorothy Mae BROWN was born Dec. 29, 1916, in Hedrick, the daughter of Arthur G. and Elizabeth A. MINNICK MITCHELL. She married Raymond Chalice BROWN Aug. 31, 1938, on the rural farm near Packwood. He died Sept. 28, 1994.
Mrs. BROWN graduated from Packwood High School. She and her husband ran a mobile home park in Keokuk from 1962 to 1973, then moved to rural Keokuk.
She worked in day care service for several years. In 2007, she moved to Washington, Ill., with her daughter Frances FREEMAN for about six months, then moved to Loveland, Colo., to live with her daughter Margaret "Sue" PHILIP. In May 2009, Mrs. BROWN moved back to Keokuk to the nursing home.
She was a member of Melrose Methodist Church, served as secretary to the Melrose church board and was a member of the Melrose Ladies Group.
Survivors include three daughters and three sons: Frances FREEMAN and husband Richard, Raymond BROWN and wife Sherry, Carl BROWN and wife Janice, Orville BROWN and wife Barb GOODE, Mary SCHNEIDER and husband Bill KITE, Margaret "Sue" PHILIP and husband Doug; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Roy MITCHELL.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carl and Willis MITCHELL; and two grandsons.
