Merlin Rex GRABY

Merlin Rex GRABY, age 85, of Murfreesboro, TN died at home on Tuesday, January 22, 2013.

The funeral will be 4:00 pm Sunday at Franklin Road Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Norris officiating. Private family burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Franklin Road Baptist Church.

Mr. GRABY was born October 1, 1927 in Fairfield, Iowa to the late Rex Henry and Edna Mae (KRUMBOLTZ) GRABY.

Following graduation from Fairfield High School in 1945, he served in the US Army from 1946-47 at the end of WWII.

In 1949, Rex returned to Fairfield, IA and married Marion GLENDENNING. They were married for 16 months before she died of cancer in 1950.

Rex continued his education at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, graduating in 1956.

In 1958, Rex moved to Wheaton, IL to begin work at the Sword of the Lord Publishers. There he met and married Theresa MAKATURA in 1959. When the entire Sword family moved to Murfreesboro, TN in 1963, Rex and his family relocated with them. Rex worked in both the shipping department and the plateroom for over 30 years before retiring in 2004.

Mr. GRABY has been a faithful and active member of Franklin Road Baptist Church since 1964 where he served as a deacon and a trustee. He enjoyed volunteering his time helping out around the church and school grounds.

He was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, Roger and Jack, Marion (GLENDENNING), wife of 16 months and Theresa (MAKATURA), wife of 49 ½ years.

He is survived by two sons, Scott (Sandy) and Randal (Lisa) of Murfreesboro, two daughters, Cindy GRABY of Pensacola, FL and Michelle (Dave) THOMASON of Palatka, FL, and 9 grandchildren: Scott Jr, Sherri, Julia and Christina GRABY, Jeremiah, Isaiah and Micah THOMASON and Ashley and Austin GRABY.
