On June 15, 1916 her husband passed into the great beyond. Six months previous to his death, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. After her marriage she lived in Des Moines county for two years. They then moved to Henry County where they resided for 28 years. For seventeen years before the death of her husband she resided at Agency. Since his death she has lived in the home of her sons.
When she was but a child, Mrs. HANKINS united with the Methodist Episcopal church, and remained a faithful member to the day of the termination of her earthly pilgrimage. She had been in failing health for the past twelve years. Some seven years ago she became practically helpless. About two years ago she grew much worse. Sunday night July 4, she was stricken with her final illness, and on Saturday, July 10th, 1920 at 3:35 o’clock, the Divine Messenger called her and she sleeps. She was aged at the time of her passing, 76 years and 5 months.
She leaves to mourn their loss three children, Frank L. of Fairfield, Mrs. Nellie J. VERNATOR of Oakland, and Rev. Charles B. HANKINS, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church at Newton. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Sarah J. BRYSON of Villisca, and Mrs. Rachael SHORT of Mt. Union; seven grandchildren, a number of more distant relatives and a large circle of friends. The battle fought – the victory’s won,
And thou are crowned at last.”* Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.
