Michael J. RIPPY

Michael J. RIPPY, 63, of Keosauqua died at 11:05 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at home.

A funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Larry Shipley officiating. Military honors by Beer-Barker Post No. 113 follows the service. The body will be cremated and cremains buried privately in Barker Cemetery south of Pulaski.

Visitation begins at 3 p.m. Friday with the family present 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials to Keosauqua Fire Department or Van Buren County Jaws of Life may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 606 Main St., Keosauqua 52565.

Mr. RIPPY was born Nov. 12, 1949, in Omaha, Neb., the son of Jesse W. and Elma GOODEN RIPPY. He married Janet RYSDAM and they divorced. He later married Patricia SLOCUM.

He entered the U.S. Navy after high school and served in Vietnam.

He moved to Van Buren County following his military service.

He was a supervisor at Barker LTD, now Hill-Phoenix, display case manufacturers in Keosauqua.

He served many years on the Keosauqua Fire Department and Jaws of Life Board, the Van Buren County 911 board and he was a weather spotter for the county.

He served on the Keosauqua City Council.

He was a past president of Keosauqua Lions Club and past district governor of Iowa Lions District 9X4 and was active in Beer-Barker Post No. 113, American Legion, Keosauqua and Serve Outdoors.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Marilyn RIPPY of Toledo and Stephanie AINSWORTH of Pella; one stepson, Jon SHERROD and spouse Leisa of Keosauqua; three step-grandsons; and one sister, Patricia JONES of Council Bluffs.
