Harold Dean STECKER

Harold Dean STECKER, 94, of Mount Pleasant and formerly of rural Hillsboro died at 10:55 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Sunnybrook Ashford Park in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral is planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Harrisburg Baptist Church, north of Bonaparte. Burial, with military rites by Sargeant - Osweiler Post 563 American Legion of Bonaparte, will be in Vale Cemetery (note: in Van Buren County, IA).

Visitation opened at 2 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present from 5-8 p.m.

Memorials to Harrisburg Baptist Church or Vale Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or the church or mailed to the family at 17192 Willow Ave., Hillsboro 52630.

Mr. STECKER was born March 29, 1918, at Yates City, Ill., the son of John and Nellie MEYER STECKER. He married Dorothy F. ELLIOTT Feb. 22, 1947, in Keosauqua. She died May 4, 1986. He married Fern THORNBURG in 1988. She died in May of 2009.

Mr. STECKER grew up in and spent his entire life farming in Harrisburg Township of Van Buren County until retiring to Mount Pleasant.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church, Van Buren County Farm Bureau, American Legion and an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. He enjoyed flying and obtained his pilot's license.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra BATTEN and spouse Bob of rural Hillsboro; two sons, Ronald STECKER and spouse Brenda of Marion and Keith STECKER and spouse Lori of Williamsburg; one stepdaughter, Rosanna GRINSTEAD and spouse Roger in Ohio; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Neva CARTER of Stockport and Irma ELLIOTT of Bonaparte; and one brother, Gilbert STECKER of Keosauqua.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lester STECKER; and one sister, Rhea BROMBAUGH.
