Lois SCHMIDT FRESCOLN, 94, formerly of Batavia, Ottumwa and Fairfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in St. Louis.
A service is at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon. Visitation and a lunch begin at 1 p.m. prior to the service at church.
Memorials may be made to Batavia Methodist Church. Memorials and cards may be sent to Patty ROBERTSON, 2318 Little Soap Road, Bloomfield 52537.
Mrs. FRESCOLN was born May 9, 1918, the daughter of Herman and Alma MERCK SCHMIDT in Iowa County, near Victor. She married Harold FRESCOLN Aug. 25, 1946. He died Jan. 4, 1969.
She was baptized, confirmed and attended St. John's Lutheran Church as a child.
She graduated from Victor High School in 1935.
She attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines then worked at Western Mutual Insurance Co. for nine years.
She and her husband lived on a farm south of Batavia and were active in the Cardinal School and Batavia Methodist Church.
She worked at Cardinal School for several years and belonged to Chapter W, TTT for many years.
After her husband's fatal farm accident, she moved to Ottumwa. She volunteered at the Ottumwa Blood Bank for 18 years.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottumwa for more than 20 years, and also volunteered at her church for many years.
She moved to Fairfield in 1999 and attended Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She never missed an opportunity to be with family and attended nearly every ball game, music concert, dance recital or anything her grandchildren participated in.
She was an active golfer until her early 80s. She belonged to the Ladies Municipal Golf Association for more than 20 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Patty ROBERTSON and her husband Tom of Bloomfield, and Pam FONDELL and her husband Mike; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Merlin SCHMIDT and Harold SCHMIDT; and one brother-in-law, Merrill FRESCOLN.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters-in-law.
