Sister Mary Josephus LAMANSKY

Sister Mary Josephus LAMANSKY, 87, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, in Aurora, Ill.

A funeral was held Dec. 28 in Aurora.

Ms. LAMANSKY was born July 25, 1925, the daughter of Harry and Helen LAHR LAMANSKY.

Ms. LAMANSKY grew up on a farm in Jefferson County.

She graduated from Pleasant Plain Consolidated School in 1943. She attended nursing school at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, Ill., where she graduated in 1946. She later received a bachelor of science degree from St. Xavier College in Chicago and a master's degree in hospital administration from St. Louis University.

She joined the Sisters of Mercy in 1947 in Des Plaines, Ill., and professed her final vows Aug. 16, 1953.

She worked at Mercy Iowa City from 1974 to 2006. She was a long-time administrator and also served as co-director of pastoral care and chair of Mercy's Ethics Committee.

During her long career, she also served as a registered nurse, mental health specialist and nursing instructor. She worked in Davenport, Marshalltown, Aurora and Chicago.

She was a board member of the Mercy Hospital Foundation.

In 2006, she moved to McAuley Convent in Aurora, Ill.

Her favorite hobby was collecting rare coins and unique clocks.
