Seiko 'Susie' RETHERFORD

Seiko "Susie" RETHERFORD, 88, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Pleasant Manor Care Center.

A funeral is at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Hess officiating. Interment will be at Fell Cemetery in Libertyville.

Visitation is today until 7 p.m. at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, Mount Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. RETHERFORD was born March 25, 1924, in Kanagawa-ken, Japan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kinsaku KATO. She married William Andrew RETHERFORD Jan. 26, 1951, in Yokohama, Japan. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1976.

She graduated from high school in Zama Honshu, Japan.

During World War II, she worked at the Mitsubishi plant in Japan.

After moving to the United States, she worked at Universal Seamstress in Fairfield, and the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown.

She retired from Heatilator in 1984 after working as a production worker for 17 years.

She enjoyed bowling and traveling and went many places visiting friends and family.

She was an excellent seamstress.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Survivors include one son, Robert RETHERFORD of Red Wing, Minn; two daughters, June SCHUTTE and spouse Gene of Mount Pleasant, and Judy BROWN of Whiting, N.J.; and two sisters.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
