Florence P. Kessel, 94, formerly of Fairfield, died Friday evening, Dec. 26, 2003, at Monroe County Nursing and Rehab Center in Waterloo, Ill.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stephen Page officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Open visitation will be held Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home, with Recitation of the Rosary at 4 p.m.

Memorials have been established to the Eagles Auxiliary.

Mrs. Kessel was born Dec. 30, 1908, in the Crosslanes community of Jefferson County, the daughter of William and Bertha Stansberry Heston. She married Lawrence Kessel May 14, 1930, in Fairfield. He died June 25, 1980.

Mrs. Kessel grew up in the Crosslanes community, attended Crosslanes school and graduated from Fairfield High School.

She worked as a clerk at F.W. Woolworth Store in Fairfield for many years.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society and the Eagles Auxiliary.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara "Bobbi" Winebright and husband Trevor of St. Louis; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Heston of Hartfort City, Ind.; one sister, Mary Barber of Moline, Ill.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Earl and Ray Heston.
