Henry M. "Hank" Belzer
December 29, 2003Henry M. "Hank" Belzer, 73, of Ottumwa died at 12:42 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Burial will be in Oakview Cemetery in Albia.
Visitation began at 1 p.m. today at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials have been established to Wesley United Methodist Church or American Heart Association.
Mr. Belzer was born April 1, 1930, in Monroe County, the son of William "Bill" and Hazel Stuchel Belzer. He married Joan M. Clouse June 26, 1948.
He was a resident of Albia from 1949-1968, a resident of Fairfield from 1968-1999. He moved to Ottumwa in 1999. He had been an employee of Monroe County, a service manager for both Briggs Ford Garage in Albia and Jefferson Motors in Fairfield. He retired in 1987.
Mr. Belzer was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Ottumwa and Elks Lodge 1192 of Fairfield. He had been a Boy Scout leader. He exhibited antique gasoline engines at Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant, fished, hunted, trapped and camped.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Forrest Belzer and wife Kathy of Rock Island, Ill., and Darrell Belzer and wife Mary of Ottumwa; one daughter, Deanne Hickenbottom and husband Ralph of Fairfield; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bobby Belzer of Albia.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter; two brothers, Roy and Clifford Belzer; and one sister, Dorothy Shafer.
